Implications of EU Changes to VAT
I’m sad to say that December 31st 2014 will be the final day that I can sell my patterns as instant digital downloads. Due to EU changes to VAT that are coming in to effect, (which I won’t go into here as it has taken me a month to get my head around it), the selling of digital products including sewing or knitting patterns, apps, eBooks and music has become a lot more complicated and will prove to be more expensive for everyone. A lot of small business are having to close because of it. However, I am glad to say that I do have an option for those of you that like to buy my digital products. The UK government has classed the ‘emailing’ of documents as not being electronic. This means I can still sell my patterns to you, but we have to take a step back in time as you might have to wait a few hours until I can manually email them instead.
Unfortunately selling patterns through my store on Craftsy will have to stop on the 30th December, as it sells digital downloads only, it will be closing completely.
Patterns on Etsy will be available as downloads until 30th December, but will then be available via email. This is in addition to printed copies that can be posted.
Patterns on Folksy were always sent via email, so there will be no change. Printed copies are available here too.
I hope this is not a deterrent, as I know my international customers prefer downloads, so I can continue to move forward in 2015 with new releases that I have lined up for you.
