Here’s What’s Been Happening
So it was only 8 weeks ago the opportunity came about to have a second room at the hall, down the corridor from the Sewing Room and it made perfect sense to make use of it to provide sewing supplies for everyone. With fabric shops being few and far between these days it makes life easier for those visiting the Sewing Room to be able to pick up their supplies at the same place. Hence our new little shop came about!
I was given the keys to room 15 at the beginning of July and this is how it looked.
Just a blank canvas.
So we’ve worked flat out all summer, building tables and bookcases, painting furniture, cleaning windows, sorting stock, as well as teaching! (As about 90% of classes we had planned went ahead). Projects had to be made not only for the shop but for Christmas classes too. Then there were preparations to be made for an up and coming quilt show (in the middle of September)! So we really have been busy, but I hope you’ll agree it was worth it?
I was also well supervised at home too to make sure I was doing it right!
But the best part:
When setting up the shop I had to choose the fabric! This must have taken 4 – 5 hours wading through gorgeous catalogues of samples, but I hope you’ll like the ranges I chose to start with which I think are beautiful and will inspire us into make some beautiful projects!
One of the ranges I chose for you is made by ‘Gutermann’, (who usually make thread). It’s designed by a French lady called Veronique, who owns the ‘Born to Quilt‘ shop in France, (as I love her style). Her fabric collections are called ‘Vero’s World’ and they are on a longer bolt than normal (which are 1.5 metres wide).
Then the Opening Day Finally Arrived.
The fabric was removed from the packets, the Sewing Room was set up with class displays and there was plenty of Prosecco and scones for everyone who visited.
We hope to see you at the Sewing Box soon
